The Obvious Scapegoat

Have you noticed how quickly we make God the

A loved one diesโ€”we say, โ€œGod took them.โ€ An opportunity slips through our handsโ€”we sigh, โ€œMaybe it wasnโ€™t Godโ€™s will.โ€ Famine, disaster, brokennessโ€”we shrug, โ€œEverything happens for a reason.โ€

But Jesus Himself cleared this up in ๐—๐—ผ๐—ต๐—ป ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ:๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ (๐—ก๐—ž๐—๐—ฉ):

โ€œThe thief does not come except to ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐š๐ฅ, and to ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ, and to ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ฒ. I have come that they may have ๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž, and that they may have it more abundantly.โ€

If it steals, kills, or destroysโ€”itโ€™s NOT God. Period. Thatโ€™s the devilโ€™s job description. Godโ€™s will is life. Abundant life. He is the one who said to Jeremiah' "For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ you and ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ฆ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jer. 29:11)

But hereโ€™s the catch: God is ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต๐—ณ๐˜‚๐—น to His Word. He will never go against it. And from the very beginning, He gave man ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป over the earth (Genesis 1:26โ€“28). Dominion was never conditional. God wonโ€™t break His Word just to step in and do what He has already empowered us to do.

This is why Jesus didnโ€™t say, โ€œPray and wait while I preach the Gospel for you.โ€ Noโ€”He said:

Thatโ€™s why Moses had to stretch out his rod (Exodus 14:16). Thatโ€™s why Peter told the lame man, โ€œ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—น๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—œ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ, ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—œ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—œ ๐—ด๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚: ๐—œ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜, ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐˜‚๐—ฝ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ.โ€ (Acts 3:6)God moves, but He moves through ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป.

So maybe the famine isnโ€™t Godโ€™s judgmentโ€”itโ€™s waiting for Joseph to step up. Maybe the brokenness in your family isnโ€™t โ€œGodโ€™s mysterious willโ€โ€”itโ€™s waiting for you to forgive, pray, and restore. Maybe the suffering in your community isnโ€™t โ€œjust lifeโ€โ€”itโ€™s waiting for the Church to be the Church. Stop blaming God for what He never authored. He has already equipped you to change it.
